The B&B arrangement is actually a very old one, before the 20th century, it was quite normal for country travelers to spend the night at a private house rather than an inn, and the custom persists in many parts of the world. Innkeepers take pride in serving well balanced and tasty meals allowing guests to enjoy every aspect of their stay. But in all the times that my husband and I have stayed at B&Bs, this has never been a real problem.

One big distinction here other than the obvious over all privacy issue is usually breakfast. One key piece of advice though is to plan your bed & breakfast travels well in advance.
