Nothing pleases me more than to open our guestbook and read, When we opened the door the beautiful room just took my breath away." Few people go to a bed and breakfast looking for the type decor they have at home. The innkeeper is often also the cook, the waiter and the dishwasher.
Be sure and check the pictures on the website when looking for a good B&B. Although they might own beautiful homes which have been restored and immaculately decorated, most innkeepers don't even make all their income at the inn. Consultation with a qualified travel agent knowledgeable in this type of accommodation is recommended; many B&Bs belong to associations, have a web presence, and are described in various books and travel guides. Innkeepers take pride in serving well balanced and tasty meals allowing guests to enjoy every aspect of their stay.
In areas less often visited by tourists, B&Bs can be an amazing bargain. The first thing to consider is the area of the country you will be visiting. But I've never stayed anywhere that had what I would call strange rules. When visiting such a popular bed and breakfast town, the research you do beforehand will greatly impact the quality of your stay.
Inkeepers tend to be aware of their guests privacy and do what it takes to preserve it. The owner usually lives in the same home and will do everything they can to make sure your stay is a pleasant one. Although every Bed and Breakfast is different you can generally expect a full breakfast of meat and eggs with fresh baked muffins, fresh squeezed juice and fruit. Bed and Breakfast Inns really are more economical when you consider the entire price of the stay.
Innkeepers will sometimes ask you to be quiet if you come back to the inn late, out of respect for other guests. In some cases you can even make your reservation on-line.
